Help me map the internet!
A list of what I did instead of doomscrolling this week and a small favor to ask <3
In 2009, co-founder of Wired, Kevin Kelly, asked everyone he knew (of all ages, might I add) to submit hand-drawn maps of the internet. He wanted to survey how people were experiencing their then-new age of connectivity. Some drew mind maps, others fashioned arrows into complex webs.
My personal favorite —
It’s no secret that the internet has changed a lot since 2009. For better or for worse? Depends on who you ask. I’m curious how folks, especially those with more intentional relationships with the web see the internet today.
Internet traffic is aggregated into a few select sites. Algorithms are creating a convergence of culture. The indie web fades in the background of SEOs— where do we find whimsy today? Today, I’m bringing back Kelly’s experiment and crowdsource internet maps.

Call 1-800 Shaolin for a good time — Spencer Harrison (owner of the only copy of the Wu-Tang Clan’s 2015 album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin) and conceptual artist Máuhan M Zonoozy answer the question: how do you experience an album that has only one copy in the world; whose online existence is forbidden?

Hello friends! I recently enabled paid subscriptions to support some of my more rogue ventures in cyber celibacy (typewriters, building a printing press… more to come).
I also created a Snail Mail Membership, where (in true neo-luddite fashion) I’ll physically mail you this newsletter on a bi-monthly basis. For the first dozen snail mail members, I’ll handwrite your first letter <3
