I love how you highlght the intimacy of sharing music physicaly. The tangible connection that came with borrowing someone's CD or making a mix tape realy can't be replicated by sending a link. There's something powerfull about treating music as a posession rather than a utility.

there's also so much to be said about the performance of sharing music today! from sharing songs on your instagram story to curating *public playlists,* perception seems to be souring the intimacy of music sharing...

yes, and i raise you a question i have.. is it ethical to check out cds from the local library solely for the purpose of ripping them to an ipod… like, okay supporting local libraries, but is that considered piracy or simply being #resourceful.. asking for a friend ofc

hmmm... to take this in a utilitarian direction, I feel like the odds that someone is actually checking out a CD to listen to it itself is already low. Perhaps you're giving this CD new life? increasing it's chances of being heard? (positive?)

Recently I had a chance to listen to the whole album on CD for the first time in years. And what struck me (tho I’ve been thinking about it already) is how well I remember track lists of albums I used to listen as cds and how badly I am with it now even if I still prefer to stream whole albums on Spotify/elsewhere. The act of listening to the same few songs to the point you know what’s coming and how different it is from the „shuffle” way. And now I guess I assured myself that I want to go back to my old ways haha to get to be with the music for longer, as a more „whole” experience

I feel the sequence of songs etched in my memory each time I listen to continuum - like reordering the songs just makes it feel weird
