I enjoy your writing so much. It hits a sweet spot between research, analysis and a kind of softness or gentleness I'd expect to see in poetry. Thanks for keeping it in front of paywalls, too!

ironically, 26.2 miles is also an arbitrary metric

one week in and my body has already decided that 26.2 miles is a stupid, stupid number

so good, as always!!!! i love how you never do anything half-heartedly, and this feels above and beyond. i can't wait to hear how it goes!

i'm really interested to see how you find the balance between preparation/getting the distances in and injury prevention without tech. i personally loveeee how my runs feel when i'm not tracking anything, but i always end up getting antsy about not knowing exactly how far i've run, because i'm quite injury prone. although, with that being said, sometimes only having a timer (or nothing at all) means it's much easier to listen to your body.

anyway! best of luck!! this might be my sign to get out the casio again...

Thanks for, once again, putting into words what I’ve been feeling intuitively! In the past year my Apple Watch bit the dust (and I didn’t feel the need to replace it), and I just stopped wearing my Oura ring. Neither felt right anymore. I KNOW when I sleep well, and if I want to know how far I walked/ran, I’ll look at a map!

Finding your blog changed my life! It is my guide into navigating the tech world we didn’t necessarily asked for, and into reclaiming ourselves as individuals, if it’s even possible

About your feelings of anxiety related to Oura and sleep - did you know this is so bad it even has a name? I found out about this in my job, where I create content for doctors. They wanted to post about orthosomnia. Here’s a definition: “Orthosomnia is the proposed term for an obsessive pursuit of optimal sleep that is driven by sleep tracker data.”

Like, they get patients that sleep well, have perfect health conditions, but don’t believe their own bodies because a smart watch said they only got 30min of deep sleep :( and we’re creating posts to educate people about listening to their bodies to better analyze their sleep quality. Your post made me think of how generalized this problem can be, and how we don’t always notice, since data is now omnipresent!
